TeliaSonera intends cooperating with Azerbaijan in broadband services development

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 30 / Trend H.Veliyev / Prospects of building a rational, efficient telecommunications infrastructure in Azerbaijan, including cooperation with the operators in this field and other issues were discussed during the meeting between the president and CEO of TeliaSonera Lars Nyberg and Azerbaijani Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov. Nyberg mentioned this at a press conference in Baku on Wednesday, noting that one of the key issues upon which discussions were held with the Azerbaijani side is cooperation in the development of broadband services. In this context the use of both optical and wireless networks are being considered. He said about 90 per cent of the TeliaSonera network traffic accounts for data services. This area has a significant growth and the trend is typical for all markets including Azerbaijan. "Of course Azerbaijan, as well as other telecommunications markets, has developed fixed networks. I hope that as in other markets, the mobile network in Azerbaijan will prevail, which will also contribute to a significant increase in this segment," Nyberg said. He said the presence of a stable and formed telecommunications infrastructure is an important component of the developed economy. Fintur Holdings B. V, in which TeliaSonera owns 74 per cent, has a stake in the Azercell, a mobile network operator in Azerbaijan. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
