Spanish Talgo signs $1.2 billion contract in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 14 / Trend E. Kosolapova/ Spanish manufacturer of railway vehicles Talgo has signed a 15-year contract on maintenance of passenger carriages in Kazakhstan. The contract is worth 989 million euros ($1.2 billion), CincoDias reported. According to the contract, Talgo will carry out services on passenger carriages maintenance in Zhagiparov PP- a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakh Railways). The company will be responsible for operation of 1,044 passenger carriages. Talgo company has been working in Kazakhstan for a time. Earlier the company signed an agreement with Kazakh government to renew Kazakh railway's carriage fleet. Moreover, in June 2010, Talgo and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy signed an agreement to create a joint venture Tulpar Talgo and build a passenger carriage plant with capacity of 150 carriages per year in Kazakh city of Astana.
