Securities market increases by more than half in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug 9 /TRend A.Akhundov/ The securities market in Azerbaijan increased by 55 percent during the firstn half of the year compared to to the same period last year, and reached $5.8 billion manat, the State Committee on Securities of the country (SCS) said on Thursday. During the reporting period, the government bond market amounted to 37 million manat, which is by 81 percent less compared to the same period last year. However, despite this, the growth in this market segment has been implemented due to the Central Bank's notes and repurchases transactions conducted with them. The amount of notes of the Central Bank increased by 25 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching to 616.7 million manat, and the growth of the secondary market for these instruments amounted to 31 percent. The number of repo transactions increased by 8.9 percent during the reporting period compared to the same period last year, their volume - by 81 percent to 4.9 billion manat. Corporate securities market in Azerbaijan has decreased by 30 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching $231.2 million manat despite the increase in transactions with them by 12.5 percent. According to the report the number of transactions with shares in the primary market decreased by 40.5 per cent, volume - by 26.5 percent during the reporting period. However, the increase in the number of transactions with shares on the secondary market by 16 percent and volume by 96.3 per cent eventually led to an increase in the stock market in general by 5 percent to 84.6 million manat, operations with them - by 13.6 percent. Operations on the corporate bond market decreased by 7.9 percent, volume - by 41.6 percent, amounting to 146.6 million manat. The volume of transactions in the primary and secondary market of mortgage bonds decreased by 65.4 percent and reached 73.6 million manat for the year.
