Azerbaijan, Baku, April 19 / Trend E. Kosolapova/ The second phase of the project on Kazakh Aktau Port extension to the north has been completed, the Kazakh Development Bank reported on Thursday. A 500 meter-long breakwater structure was built in the Aktau Port within the second phase of the project. The Aktau Port expansion project will double the port's capacity. Following the completion of the project the port will be able to transship 3 million tons of dry cargo per year. The project is worth 41.7 billion tenge. It is supported by the Kazakh Development Bank. The Bank has financed the first two phases of the project and is considering issuing a loan for the third phase of the project. In the third phase dredging work will be implemented in the port and approach channels. Within the final fourth phase it is supposed to create three dry cargo berths with an additional port infrastructure. Aktau port, located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea, is Kazakhstan's only port for international transportation of various dry cargo, crude oil and petroleum products. The port was established as a transport hub of several types of transport such as rail, road, water and pipeline. The Aktau port is a part of three international transport corridors - TRACECA, North-South and INOGATE. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
