QR 31 Billion for Water Supply Expansion in 4 Years - Al Kuwari
Doha, April 22 (QNA) - President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, who is also chairman of the the 10th Gulf Water Conference , said that the Kahramaa was considering infrastructure projects for the expansion and development of the water supply system for 2012-2016, with a value exceeding QR 31 Billion.
Eng. Al Kuwari noted in his speech at the opening session of the Conference that Kahramaa is in process of building giant tanks to store water and also will begin to inject desalinated water in the aquifer as a strategic reserve.
Eng. Al-Kuwari explained that Kahramaa is currently discussing, with the authorities concerned with scientific research development, the establishment of a desalination plant powered by solar energy, noting that Qatar spent during the last five years more than QR 11 billion on expanding and developing the water systems.
He said that discussions groups in the conference cover many important points, including planning, sustainable management of water and energy resources, natural water resource management, the techniques of water desalination and the sector of wastewater and re-use of treated water. (QNA)
