Qatargas CEO Named European Gas Conference Executive of the Year

Doha, January 28 (QNA) - Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani was chosen 2011 Executive of the year in the awards ceremony held alongside 2012 European Gas Conference that concluded in Vienna on Friday. "I'm very happy and honored to win this award on behalf of Qatargas, which is now the world's biggest producer of LNG thanks to the directives of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry and Qatargas Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani said in a press statement after receiving the award. "Europe will remain the most important LNG market for Qatargas. Shipments of QatarGas LNG helped diversify and secure energy sources in Europe over the past few years," HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani said. HE said that the State of Qatar has invested heavily in LNG in Europe, which helped give a kind of flexibility the European gas market and strengthened its capacity. "We, in Qatargas, are committed to providing LNG solutions, and we always look forward to keeping Qatari LNG a part of Europe's LNG imports in the foreseeable future," HE added. European Gas Conference Awards Committee said in a statement that HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani "demonstrated a passion for leadership and strong managerial skills through, among others, his utilization of the town-hall meeting process to reach out to all employees of his vast organization." "He is the champion for the Qatargas 2015 Vision which has the goal of placing (the company) as the world’s premier LNG company for innovation, humanity, operational excellence and environmental responsibility," the statement added. The prize is awarded to executives in recognition of their efforts in developing the European gas industry. Portfolio Director of North Africa, Europe & North America at Energy Exchange Monica Gonda, and Conference Director Sandra Haines presented the award to Qatargas CEO at a dinner held on Wednesday in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
