Qatar Pledges USD 3 million to Support OHCHR
Geneva, June 26 (QNA) - Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation, HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al-Thani has met here with Ms. Navi Pillay, the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) during the sideline event held on the role of the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region.
The meeting was attended by Qatar's Permanent Representative the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Seif Al-Thani and the director of Human Rights Office at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Bin Jassim Al -Thani.
During the meeting, the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation praised UNHCHR's vital role in the promotion of human rights, reaffirming Qatar's commitment to enhance human rights in line with the overall national strategy.
He also underscored Qatar's support to the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region to fully implement the mandate entrusted to it, pledging a donation to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) of USD 3 million.
For her part, Ms. Pillay thanked the State of Qatar's for hosting and supporting the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Center for South West Asia and the Arab Region. (QNA)
