Qatar Exchange Index Gains 365.83 Points in January

Doha, February 2 (QNA) - Qatar Exchange index gained 365.83 points, or 4.38%, during January 2013, as compared to December 2012, when trading closed at 8,724.77 points on the last day of the first month of the New Year. The trading value of QR 4,611,900,468.29 during January is an increase by 55.66% compared to QR 2,962,756,194.58 registered during December 2012. The trading volume increased by 48.86% to reach 90,738,046 shares, as against 60,956,448 shares, while the number of transactions rose by 47.77%, to reach 64,943 transactions as compared to 43,950 transactions during December2012. Banks and Financial Services sector led the traded value in January 2013, accounting for 49.74% of the total traded value, followed by the industries which accounted for 23.17%. Consumer Goods and Services accounted for 9.41%. Transportation accounted for 5.90%. Telecommunications accounted for 5.25%. Real Estate accounted for 4.09%, and insurance accounted for 2.44%. The market capitalization in January 2013 was QR 475,368,731,255.61 an increase by 3.37% compared to QR 459,883,620,869.07 at the end of December 2013. Banks and Financial Services sector led traded volume in January with 45.79% of the total traded volume. Industries accounted for 14.83%. Transportation accounted for 10.92%. Real Estate accounted for 10.21%. Telecommunications accounted for 8.24%. Consumer Goods and Services accounted for 8.07% and insurance accounted for 1.95%. From the 42 listed companies, 25 ended the month higher while 17 fell from 22 days of trading activity compared to 21 days in December 2012. Qatar National Bank topped the value of traded shares with QR 693,594,700.20, accounting 15.04% of the total traded value on the bourse. Industries Qatar accounted for 14.95% with QR 689,251,550.90. Doha Bank accounted for 8.34% with QR 384,545,595.10. Commercial Bank of Qatar accounted for 7.74% with QR 357,070,871.90 and Masarf Al Rayan accounted for 5.45% with QR 251,547,787.29. The above five companies together accounted for 51.52% of the traded value adding up to QR 2,376,010,505.39 while the rest of the companies accounted for 48.48% adding up to QR 2,235,889,962.90 to add up to the total traded value of QR 4,611,900,468.29 during the first month of the year 2013. The Qatari bourse' index peaked at close of trading on January 10 when it reached 8,781.70 points from 3,712 transactions for a traded volume of 5,381,198 shares for a total value of QR 236,352,385.57. The lowest value of the index was 8,449.26 points at the end of the first trading day of the year on January 2. (QNA)
