Portugal interested in boosting political and economic cooperation with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 27 / Trend A.Hasanov / Portugal is interested in improving mutual cooperation with Azerbaijan in the political and economic spheres, Minister of State and Foreign Minister of Portugal Paulo Portas told reporters in Baku. "Unfortunately our export and import potential is at a fairly low level and I will seek to ensure that these indicators can reach a new level," Portas said. He noted that Portugal and Azerbaijan are close friends and primarily the main purpose of the minister's visit in the first place is to strengthen political and economic cooperation and increase the export-import potential between the two countries. "We have to do a great job and I believe that we can strengthen our political and economic relations," Portas said. As part of Portas's visit to Baku, the Azerbaijani-Portuguese business forum was held in Baku on Wednesday with the participation of officials of both countries. At least 90 Azerbaijani and Portuguese businessmen are operating in the construction, architecture, food and chemical industries as well as ICT, pharmaceuticals and equipment.
