Online Safety Conference Raises ICT Awareness: ictQATAR Official

Doha, March 03 (QNA) - Qatar National Convention Centre is due to host on Tuesday and Wednesday the regional conference on online safety jointly organized by the Supreme Council of Information and Technology (ictQATAR) and Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI). ictQATAR Online Safety Department Head Fatema Al-Nuaimi said that the conference aims to raise awareness about information and communication technology (ICT) especially issues related to online safety in Qatar and the Gulf, with a special attention to children online safety. The conference is a good opportunity for the concerned sites in Qatar and the Gulf to get to know more about ictQatar policies and future strategies, Al-Nuaimi told QNA, adding that it also provides the opportunity to listen to Arab youth, enhance cooperation and innovation in the Arab world, exchange and share strategies and expertise, and create national dialogue for Qatari individuals, offering a model for the Gulf region. Held under the theme "Promoting Online Safety and Cyber Ethics in the Middle East", the conference will feature local, regional, and international speakers from global institutions such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Al Jazeera, Al-Nuaimi said. The conference will tackle issues such as email infringement, the expansion of mobile phone and social media usage, the role of ICT in schools, the importance of cyber ethics in addition to child's security in Web 2.0. Al-Nuaimi said that the conference will discuss young people's positive use of the Internet in the Middle East and how to use it to benefit their society, in addition to the expansion in smartphones usage.
