Nissan will not reduce its production in Thailand

BANGKOK, November 16 (TNA) - The flood-affected Nissan automobile plant in Thailand will resume its full production capacity early next month, as an executive of Japan's Nissan Motor Company has confirmed that Nissan will not reduce its production in Thailand.
Hiroto Saikawa, Executive Vice President of Japan-based Nissan Motor Company, made the confirmation during his meeting with Thai Industry Minister Wannarat Channukul in Bangkok on Tuesday, saying that he views Thailand as Nissan's most important automobile production base in Southeast Asia.
Saikawa insisted that Nissan will implement more projects in Thailand and is welcome other flood-affected producers to temporarily use its compound and is also ready to provide temporary jobs for employees of other flood-affected firms.
The executive vice president acknowledged that Nissan plant in Thailand has resumed its operation since November 14 after an about one-month break due to flooding, which had resulted in its automobile production in the Thai economy dropped by about 40,000 units, and that his firm has now relied on imported auto parts from nearby countries until the production of auto parts in Thailand returns to normal.
The Nissan executive, meanwhile, suggested that the Thai government urgently implement short and medium-term flood solutions and complete a long-term flood prevention system before the next rainy season to avoid repeated flooding and to ensure international investors’ confidence in the country.
