Iran starts to drill new well in South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 7 By Elnur Baghishov – Trend: Iran started to drill a new well around the B platform of 11th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), said Mohsen Rezaei Project Director at the South Pars Phase 11 at Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Trend reports citing POGC’s official website. According to Rezaei, the MD-1 drilling rig, owned by the MAPNA Group, is Iranian-made and will drill 12 wells around platform 11B. The official added that the delineation and development wells will be drilled to extract 1 billion cubic feet (28 million cubic meters) of rich gas per day from this platform. “At first, 5 wells will be drilled and 500 million cubic feet (14 million cubic meters) of gas per day will begin to extract,” he noted. France's Total and China's CNPCI companies have refused to operate in the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. According to this, the operations in this phase were fully entrusted to the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC). The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field. Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
