ictQATAR, QP Inaugurate iPark in Dukhan

Doha, June 12 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR). and Qatar Petrolum (QP) on Tuesday inaugurated ictQATAR s i-Park in Dukhan as part of its Internet Parks Initiative. With Dukhan iPark being launched today followed by Simaisma Park next week, there will be a total of seven iParks in Qatar. Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Secretary General at the ictQatar, Mr. Hassan Jassim Al-Sayed, said this initiative seeks to connect community members with all the means of technology, enrich their lives and therefore push the wheel of economic development and inspire confidence in a more prosperous future for Qatar. "The more we implicitly speed up access and connect people giving them usage of the internet we certainly have paved the way for all citizens, residents and visitors for the torrent of the rapid flowing information that is witnessed by the world today, making them an integral part of the information society . This is the fr4ist step on the road to progress for any nation," he added. ictQATAR launched its iParks initiative in 2007 to provide free wireless Internet service to the users of public parks in Doha. The initiative has seen its launch in three public parks of Sheraton, Rumaila and Dahl Al Hamam as a first stage, and also spread to the parks of Al Wakrah and Al Khor corniche. Mr. Al-Sayed noted that the service has met a high demand by a broad segment of the population in Qatar, especially by those who do not have Internet service delivery prevents them from buying at home. "This success has led us to expand the service in more public parks, and here we are today witnessing an extension of this service to the Dukhan Park in partnership signed by ictQATAR with Qatar Petroleum and Dukha s Operations to implement a project to develop parks Internet in Dukhan," he went on saying. By 2015, Qatar intends to provide this service in many parks and public places, in accordance with the National Strategy for Information and Communication Technology (digital agenda of the State of Qatar 2015), Mr. Al-Sayed added. "The extension of this service to cover a lot of areas, parks and public gardens is part of the relentless race against time to achieve aspects of sustainable development included in the Qatar National Vision 2030 of building an information society and knowledge economy," he said. "As we foresee a bright future for our beloved country, we hope for the continuation of this collaboration and cooperation," Mr. Al-Sayed continued. ictQATAR will work closely with the concerned authorities to further extend the initiative to include two new iParks each year in the coming years, he concluded. For his part, QP Dukhan Operations Integrated Facilities Manager, Mr. Khalid Al Sahlawi said which is the launching of the ictQATAR s i-Park in Dukhan. All Dukhan community now will be able to enjoy this service and widely communicate with their friends in a very quick and easy way. It is also clear that, the cultural and the social level of the residence are going to be positively effected. In this context, he added that all these achievements in Doha are excellent indicators that Qatar is running in the correct path to achieve QATAR s vision (2030) and what is linked to this vision to approach the sustainable development which is always emphasizes that what are we doing now is for Qatar and the coming generations. Concluding, Mr. Al Sahlawi thanked ictQATAR for all the continuous and unlimited support to push the development process forward, expressing hope to further cooperate in the future. (END)
