Manama, May 9 (BNA): The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tender is the latest in a series of tenders being released on the AMP and follows on from the Main Works Tender shared with shortlisted bidders earlier this month. These latest developments support the construction schedule for the Bahrain International Airport (BIA) Passenger Terminal Building and affirm the project’s timely progress.
Commenting on the release of the ICT Tender and the progress made to-date on the AMP, His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, stated "In the last few months, we have witnessed substantial progress being made on the AMP; the recent release of the Main Works Tender and now the ICT brings us one step closer to embarking on two of the most important project components and marks a noteworthy milestone in the AMP’s construction-cycle."
"Following a thorough filtering of all the ICT prequalification submissions, we have released the official tender to the shortlisted candidates and expect to receive their bids by June. We plan to award the ICT Contract in September this year. The AMP is a significant project for the Kingdom and all our efforts are concentrated on selecting the most suitable and experienced candidates to help realize our vision".
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tender is a significant part of the overall project and covers the design and integration of all ICT and ultra-low voltage systems including passive and active equipment, airport operational database, flight information display systems, security access control system, fire alarm system, CCTV, computer network, telephony and Wi-Fi.
Further updates on the AMP tenders include the awarding of the second Enabling Works Package and awarding of the Piling Works contract in May 2015.
The Airport Modernization Program is an ambitious project designed to elevate the airport’s infrastructure, facilities and services and increase handling capacity, boosting the regional competitiveness of BIA and stimulating the growth of the local aviation sector as a result. Once completed, the BIA Passenger Terminal will provide increased commercial and retail opportunities for business, enhanced facilities for passengers and will create ample employment opportunities for the local workforce.
