Executive Bureau of Arab Electricity Ministerial Council Meets in Doha

Doha, January 08 (QNA) - The Executive Bureau of the Arab Electricity Ministerial Council held today its 28th meeting in Doha at the invitation of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry. The meeting was attended by the president and members of the Executive Bureau (Qatar, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, and Oman). HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said the 28th meeting coincides with a range of Arab events being held in Doha related to the electricity industry. These events are the 4th General Conference of Arab Union of Electricity and the Seminar on "Investment Opportunities in Industries Related to the Electricity Sector in the Arab Countries" and the "Seventh Exhibition of Electrical Equipment and Installations in the Arab World, he noted. While underlining the importance of this vital sector and the need to speed up cooperation and Arab integration in the electricity sector and related industries, His Excellency pointed out that the agenda of the 28th meeting was designed to cover many topics related to the electricity sector at local, Arab and international level, hoping to see a prosperous electricity sector that can contribute to support economic development projects in Arab countries. He said that the Arab power grid is of great importance and urgency because of its significant impact on the economies and the well-being of the Arab peoples, adding that it is a major step in the direction of the Arab-European power interconnection. This is why we are keen to support it and solve all the problems and obstacles facing it to accelerate its implementation, he said. The peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the Arab countries, especially in the field of electricity generation and water desalination is a strategic issue, Al Sada said. This necessitates increased cooperation in the field of training and planning, he said, pointing to some practical steps that have been taken in this direction by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates in addition to that of GCC regarding the formation of a committee on nuclear energy.
