Eco-friendly green appliances enter Bahrain

Manama, Apr6(BNA)Bahrain is planning to enforce eco-friendly standards on imported electrical appliances to ensure energy efficiency and reduce pollutant gas emissions. "The Cabinet has recently endorsed the eco-friendly measure as part of Bahrain's GCC and international obligations to protect the environment", said Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf. He stressed his ministry's commitment to implement green building standards and rationalized the consumption of energy in Bahrain as part of national efforts to protect the environment. He unveiled the plans in a statement to Bahrain News Agency on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Arabian MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) Conference and Exhibition, which is held at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre (BIECC) from 6-8 April 2015. The opening ceremony was also attended by Industry and Commerce Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry Undersecretary, senior officials and guests. "The ministry has started using solar eco-friendly meters on an experimental basis", Khalaf said, pointing out that the project proved successful in the United Arab Emirates. The multi-phased project is being implemented in the Diplomatic Area in a first stage, which would be then expanded respectively to Manama Suq and Muharraq City.
