Dr. Al Sada : Qatar Committed to Developing Clean Energy

Abu Dhabi, January 16 (QNA) - Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr. Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada who is also Chairman of Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Managing Director has underlined that Qatar is committed to making every effort to develop clean energy and maintaining a sustainable environment through responsible management of its hydrocarbon sources . Speaking at the third session of the General Assembly of the International Agency for Renewable Energy (IRENA), currently being held in Abu Dhabi, HE Dr. Al Sada said this commitment is based on the Qatar National Vision 2010, which has been developed under the guidance of the wise leadership of the State of Qatar. Dr. Al Sada reviewed programs and initiatives currently being implemented for the development of renewable energy in Qatar, saying that since joining the International Agency for Renewable Energy (IRENA) in 2010, Qatar has developed strong agenda for renewable energy and also was able to promote the use of renewable energy sources through close cooperation with the IAEA by sharing experiences and knowledge. He added that within the framework partnership with the International Agency for Renewable Energy (IRENA), Qatar has signed a cooperation agreement initiative of the World Atlas for renewable energy resources, which will provide high quality information on renewable energy sources. A press statement issued by Qatar Petroleum today that on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Agency HE Dr. Al Sada met with Alfred Rollin Carlot, Minister of Foreign Trade Affairs of the Republic of Vanuatu to discuss a number of issues of common interest and to review opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the energy and industry sectors. The Agency's General Assembly meetings over two days is to gather ministers and senior officials from more than 150 countries. The meetings are to feature future roadmap for the use of global energy by 2030. The International Agency for Renewable Energy (IRENA) was officially established in 2009, as a first global organization to be based in the Middle East. The aim of its establishment is to promote the sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the world. It includes 105 Member States, in addition to 55 signatory countries to the Convention. The State of Qatar has become an official member of the Agency in June 2010. HE Dr. Al Sada, noted that Qatar has a clear vision for the future of sustainable development and prosperity. He renewed during his participation at the ministerial session at the World Summit for Future Energy , currently in session at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre Qatar's commitment to the development of renewable energy as one of the elements of the main energy package's sources based on proper planning and effective action initiatives such as the development of appropriate mechanisms to support renewable energy, and separation of power generation and distribution, and banking services to green projects, for the development of renewable energy sources.(END)
