Customs Department seizes B514m illicit goods

BANGKOK, July 11 (TNA) -- The Customs Department seized illicit goods worth 514 million baht in June and is emphasizing suppression on smuggled electronic and plastic waste. Chaiyut Khamkhun, spokesman of the department, said the illicit goods in June were involved in 1,798 cases. Of them, 451 cases concerned smuggled goods worth 73.45 million baht, 1,233 cases came from tax evasion attempts with damage worth 200.59 million baht and 114 cases were related to banned products worth 240.25 million baht. Mr Chaiyut also said that the department was focusing on suppressing smuggled electronic and plastic waste because local demand existed. Since fiscal 2018, the department seized 4,043 tons of smuggled plastic waste. Of it, 3,664 tons were seized in fiscal 2018 and 379 tons were found from last October to May this year. (TNA)
