Businesses Active After Re-Opening Of Thai-Myanmar Border Checkpoint

TAK, December 6 (TNA) - Active businesses have resumed on the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, following the re-opening of a border checkpoint on December 5. Thai-Myanmar border businesses have now been lively on the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, which links Mae Sot District of Thailand’s northwestern Tak Province and Myanmar's Myawaddy Province, as Thai and Myanmar people have already been allowed to cross the border pass as usual. Thai immigration police said that they have worked hard to serve a number of tourists and traders who want to cross into the Myanmar side and vice versa since the re-opening of the Mae Sot-Myawaddy border checkpoint, following its closure of several months by Myanmar authorities due to security reasons. According to the immigration officers, a growing number of tourists and traders crossing the border pass are expected after Myanmar establishes a special economic zone in Myawaddy in the near future. According to the Thai immigration officers, illegal entries and cross-border crime are likely to increase as well; so Thai authorities concerned have been prepared to block the illegal activities in all forms.
