BOT: Thai economy will grow by 4.8% in 2012

BANGKOK, January 28 (TNA) - Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul has assessed that the Thai economy should grow by at least 4.8 per cent this year, after expanding by only 1.8 per cent last year--when the national economy was inevitably affected by a worst flooding crisis in the last quarter. According to the BOT governor, the central bank will, however, officially release its revised figure on Thailand's economic growth projection in 2012 on February 3. In response to the US Federal Reserve (FED)'s recent decision to keep its key interest rate as low as 0-0.25 per cent until late 2014, which is as part of Washington's continual economic stimulus, the Thai central bank chief said that the FED move has been well aware by the world market.
