Azerbaijan to participate in ADB board of governors’ meeting

The 45the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be held in Manila (Philippines) May 4-5. The Azerbaijani delegation headed by Finance Minister Samir Sharifov will attend, the ministry said on Tuesday. Sharifov is a member of the ADB Board of Governors.
Over 4000 delegates, including ministers and senior members of governments of the ADB member countries, business leaders, representatives of international financial institutions and civil society will attend. Sharifov also plans to hold several business meetings within the annual meeting.
The bank's strategy of cooperation with the country will be discussed along with meetings with senior officials of the bank. Inclusive growth through better governance and partnership will be the main theme of this year's event.
The impact of global financial instability and new opportunities for growth in Asia, the role of key developing economies in the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), China and India, a regional trade and financial integration, risk management caused by natural disasters in cities, climate change and food security will be discussed at the workshops.
The ADB was established in 1966 and has 67 members. Azerbaijan became a member of the Asian Development Bank on December 22, 1999. The country's participating share in the bank's capital is 0.5 per cent.
Japan and the US (31.2 per cent of the total share capital), India and China (12.8 per cent), Australia and South Korea and Canada (16 per cent) are the ADB leading shareholders.
