700 police to maintain order at PAD rally

BANGKOK, May 29 (TNA) - Some 700 police will station at the Thai Parliament and surrounding areas on Wednesday to maintain order, as yellow-shirt demonstrators plan a renewed mass rally in front of the Parliament to protest against a proposed national reconciliation bill. Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Police Colonel Preeda Sataworn told reporters of the planned police deployment, as part of security measures arranged to ensure peace and order during the two-day mass rally of the yellow-clad People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) supporters. The police spokesman said that bomb disposal experts will also be deployed as a precaution and the police forces will keep on alert to prevent any confrontation during the mass rally as well. According to the spokesman, all movements of the yellow-shirts, if any, will be accompanied by a police motorcade to ensure their peaceful gathering and demonstration. The police spokesman acknowledged, meanwhile, that some 430 police officers will also station to ensure order at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, the venue of the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012, hosted by Thailand from May 30-June 1, and at the Dusit Thani and the Oriental Hotels in the capital, where participating world leaders stay during the two-day key regional gathering.
