20th World Petroleum Congress Opened in Doha
Doha, December 04 (QNA) -The 20th World Petroleum Congress opened in Doha on Sunday.
Addressing the opening session HE The Minister of Energy and Industry, Mohamed Saleh Al Sada noted that
for the first time since its inception, the World Petroleum Congress has come to the Middle East. This remarkable achievement is not only an honour for Qatar, it is for the whole of the Middle East region, he said.
" With this motive in mind we planned, executed, and finally delivered the 20th World Petroleum Congress'', he said.
" The wise leadership of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani The Emir of the State of Qatar has inspired us to do our utmost not only in utilizing our natural resources of oil and gas, but in everything we aspire to achieve. Starting this evening and throughout the congress days, we hope you will live and enjoy a splendid rewarding and enlightening experience that you will remember for a long time'', the minister added.
He said that the impressive growth of the congress is a proof of how successful the WPC has been. In a vivid illustration of this growth, the Congress has broken several new records in terms of number of delegates, exhibition space, and number of exhibitors, he pointed out.
"I am sure that you all are looking forward to this congress as much as we are, it will be a great opportunity to deliberate where we have been in the energy world and where are we headed, and talk about the issues and challenges that face us all. In the energy world we are partners in progress and in success", the minister said.
During the deliberations , the minister added, some of the world s best energy experts will explain their experience and their future vision. They will offer an insight into the immense challenges and opportunities in the energy world and show the means to overcome the challenges and seize the opportunities, Al Sada explained.
Held every three years, the World Petroleum Congress and Exhibition is the largest and most reputable oil and gas industry gathering in the world. The 20th World Petroleum Congress is hosted by Qatar Petroleum and is taking place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) from 4 to 8 December . Since its establishment in 1933, this is the first time that the World Petroleum Congress is hosted in the Middle East.
The Congress is attracting more than 4000 delegates, 600 media and 550 presenters participating in a programme that covers all aspects of the industry, from technological advances in upstream and downstream operations, to the role of natural gas, renewable and alternative energy, the management of the industry and its social, economic and environmental impact.
Known as the "Olympian Event of the Oil and Gas Industry", it is attended by a global oil and gas audience and outside stakeholders such as governments, other industry sectors, NGOs and international institutions who also join in the dialogue.
The World Petroleum Exhibition, held alongside the congress, and in the same venue, features exhibits from the national committees of the World Petroleum Council, which include the most prestigious national oil and gas companies and agencies of the world. It also showcases the most important international oil and gas companies alongside key suppliers, service companies and manufacturers. This is the most significant global exhibition dedicated to the oil and gas industries.
The international Congress Programme Committee has prepared a wide-ranging Technical Programme to recognize the scientific, technological and professional achievements of the oil and gas sector. The topics for the sessions reflect the official theme for the 20th World Petroleum Congress: Energy Solutions for All: Promoting Cooperation, Innovation and Investment With over 300 places to be awarded to the best papers and posters, the World Petroleum Congress demonstrates once again its role as a benchmark for the oil and gas industry.
Abstracts are submitted for a broad range of topics in the 24 Forums of the Congress. They are split across five key blocks, focusing on the latest developments and achievements in many areas of the industry. (END)
