Seven workers injured in Thailand's Phuket tourist boat explosion
PHUKET, Oct 13 – Seven people were wounded Wednesday when a commercial boat used to carry tourists to diving sites exploded in the southern resort province of Phuket on Wednesday.
Named “Ladawan 2”, the boat belonging to of the West Coast Divers company exploded at 10.50am while it was docked at a repairing site in Phuket for engine repairs in preparation for the upcoming high season.
Seven workers onboard fixing the boat were injured with one of them in a critical condition.
Fire engines were deployed to put out the fire but the firefighters had difficulty because the boat was docked at sea, could not be approached properly and it was completely destroyed.
A boat's captain, Pratueng Boonrod, heard the explosion and witnessed the fire engulfing the boat and workers running from the boat.
The explosion was believed to be caused by engine repair welding and the damage was initially estimated at least Bt10 million. (MCOT online news)
