Iran will not succumb to the West: president

TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Iran will not succumb to the Western pressure to stop its peaceful nuclear activities.

“The administration assures …. it will strongly defend Iran’s rights and will not back down one iota,” Ahmadinejad said in ceremony held to inaugurate the largest aluminum plant in the southern city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday.

“The enemy imagines it can create obstacles for the Iranian people but they should know the Iranian nation will continue its way,” Ahmadinejad stated.

He went on to say, “They issued several resolutions and sanctioned Iran ... they think Iranians will fall to their knees over these things but they are mistaken.”

“We are not interested in conflicts (but) you are continually demanding things,” he said to the world powers.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad said Iran has made a proposal for eradication of all nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction and will vehemently pursue the issue.

“Now the Iranian nation is claimer, claimer of nuclear disarmament; all countries must be disarmed from nuclear weapons and we are standing firm on this matter.”
