First int’l annual confab on Indo-Iranian studies held

New Delhi, Jan 9, IRNA – The first international annual conference of Iranian students in India held at India Islamic Cultural Centre Saturday in New Delhi.

Beside the Chief Guest, Syed Mehdi Nabi Zadeh, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi, the day-long conference on Indo-Iranian Studies was attended by Professor Ghulam Husain Karim, Consular of Science and Education, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahdavi, Chief of Jamatul Mustafa, distinguished guests and Researchers and students from all disciplines who are engaged in research in Indo-Iranian Studies.

The main themes of the conference are interrelation of Indo-Iranian socities, historical and contemporary perspective, Iranian communities in India: past and present and Indian communities in Iran: past and present.

The field of Indo-Iranian engaged in both theoretical and empirieal study of subjects related to Indo-Iranian issues, which is the main theme of this conference, within historical, contemporary, interdisciplinary, multi-cultural, national and global contexts.

The interdisciplinary nature of the field is one of its greatest strengths and the core of its remarkable potential for scholarly advancement, also leaves the field open for exploration and interrogation, and its borders difficult, if not impossible to define.

In an attempt to define these diverse fields, the conference proposes defining Indo-Iranian studies by “doing” research in these two fields especially by Iranian students in India, but the conference will be open to all researchers and students from other countries.

Prominent Speakers, Professor S Chattarjee, Parviz Nayyeri, Karim Tafazzoli, presented their papers on Science and Technology as a platform for cooperation, Iran’s relation with India since the advent of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and Indian and Iranian Modernity, respectively./end
