Health Ministry starts A(H1N1) vaccinations next week

BANGKOK, Jan 7 (TNA) – Thailand’s Public Health Ministry is ready to start type A(H1N1) vaccinations for two million people subject to high risk across the country on January 11.

Paichit Varachit, permanent secretary for public health said the vaccination would be offered at 129 state and private hospitals, including 59 hospitals in Bangkok and 70 others in other provinces.

State hospitals will give vaccination free of charge but private hospitals will only provide vaccination for pregnant women and they must pay a service charge.

Forty per cent of the vaccine has been distributed throughout the country and the ministry is expected to completely distribute all two million doses of vaccine by January 8.

Five high risk groups are women who are more than three months pregnant, persons weighing over 100 kg, the disabled, persons with chronic diseases and public health officials.

Dr Pipat Yingseri, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration, said that the H1N1 flu vaccine, Panenza produced by Sanofi Pasteur was certified and registered with the FDA on December 3, 2009.

The FDA approved the use of vaccine on January 6 as academic information showed that the vaccine is safe for inoculation for babies aged over six months, adolescents and the elderly over 60 years. (TNA)
