The Best Demonstration Of Democracy

The “pro-government demonstration” that didn’t carry the picture of the President.

The BBC called the Wednesday December 30 2009 demonstrations across Iran, the “supporters of Iran’s government stag[ing] big rallies”, but in reality many of those who demonstrated where not necessarily supporters of President Ahmadinejad.

They were in reality the supporters of Ayatollah Khamenei and the “Velayat Fagih” system. And they were many….

I participated in the demonstration and never saw a single portrait of the President being carried by the people instead everyone was carrying a picture of Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Khamenei and Seyed Hassan Nastrallah.

There were holding no picture of any of the current or past presidents. This was a very decisive and hardy choice by the demonstrators, 60 percent of whom seemed to be women.

The Ashura demonstration conflict on Sunday had marred everyone’s heart. On a day that traditionally is meant for mourning and commemorating Imam Hossein’s martyrdom, the mourners had found themselves under sudden attack by anti-government protestors. A shock and a surprise.

To make things worse, 8 were reportedly killed in suspicious manners. Of course the figure of accusations by the protestors and the foreign media pointed to the police, but in reality and after enough investigation that followed a different pattern surfaced.

The MKO who have for years - almost 3 decades - trained and fortified by the CIA were not a dormant force on Sunday. Their sore enmity is not a new story. On Sunday they were scared and camouflaged in the crowd. One should not forget the attack on the Iranian soil in 1987 backed by Saddam’s army. They have since retrained, and refortified, and as Michael Ledeen said, “seizing the golden opportunity of Iran’s regime change dreams."

The demonstration was a massive sea of people who were walking quietly and with dignity to announce that the red line has been crossed.

The fact that the Western media has called it a pro-government demonstration is a fallacy. The people were there because they were all mourners of Imam Hossein and Ashura and had witnessed the defamation that had occurred. They were there to announce an end to tolerance of a perpetual mischief being carried out.

The anti-government protestors and the West have to realize that they are indeed backing a minority. Just like other minorities in Iran.

They have their grievances and their objections and it is totally understandable. But they are in minority. They have to understand that despite the support they have from Netanyahu, Rajavis, Obama or even all of the European Union, they are and will always remain, only a minority. Even in a perfect storm, they can not destroy the roots of the Islamic Republic.

The majority of Iranians are the same that appeared on independent American polls before the Presidential elections. The majority are the same that stood before Saddam Hossein who was backed by the US throughout the 8-year-war.

The majority is the same that does not care who is president and is conscious of the “Velayat Fagih” (the Spiritual Leader). The majority is what the West calls the democratic rule of people. The West has to get used to “unfortunate news”. It’s definitely a sad day for Michael Ledeen and Daniel Pipes.

On December 30, 2009, the massive and dumbfounding demonstration which took place on the same day ending the critical deadline of the US towards Iran, was a declaration of what the people of Iran really are. They have nothing to do with a Pro-government demonstration. It has to do with the commitment they have to their God. And to the destiny that has been planted by Imam Khomeini 30 years ago.

Now it is for many others to learn and accept this truth.
