RUSSIA CONDEMNS ISRAELI DPTY PM'S ANTI-IRAN COMMENTS

Moscow, June 10 (IRNA) - Russian Foreign Ministry here Monday condemned the threatening, anti-Iranian comments made by Zionist Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, saying they are unacceptable. The Russian Foreign Ministry's condemnation was issued in form of a communique in response to a question made by the country's Interfax news agency in which the effect of his threats against Iran on solving Iran's nuclear issue by the 5+1 Group was sought. The response reads, "Such comments, even if they are made on behalf of a single person, should not be made by a member of a government that is a UN member and needs to abide by the articles of the UN Charter, abiding by which is obligatory for entire UN members." The Deputy Zionist Prime Minister had said that attacking Iran's nuclear facilities is unavoidable now that the sanctions and UN resolutions have proved to be ineffective. In Russian Foreign Ministry's communique reference is made to the developments in surveys on Iran's nuclear program, pointing out, "The International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly mentioned it has never traced any deviation from peaceful nuclear activities in Iran's nuclear program." It adds, "Russia, along with other members of the G 5+1, including the United States, keeps trying to find an acceptable strategy to solve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program." The communique reiterates that the G 5+1's package of incentives is ready to be delivered to Iran as a measure aimed at resuming negotiations to solve the matter and that Russia still believes the dispute can only be solved through adopting peaceful measures. It emphasizes that solving the dispute resorting to military measures is unacceptable, since all sides need to keep in mind that the aftermaths of such moves would be catastrophic for the stability of the region. The communique adds, "In addition, increased tension over Iran would aggravate the distrust atmosphere, and beyond doubt makes more difficult the work of those who are trying to find an acceptable strategy for problem solving in the framework of Iran-G 5+1 discussions." It ends stressing that diplomatic measures within the framework of the international laws can lead to solving the entire issues related to Iran's nuclear program for the international community.
