Iranian Navy commander meets Omani military delegation

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) -- Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari met with a visiting Omani military delegation in Tehran on Sunday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed naval cooperation and related issues.

Sayyari said that Iran and Oman will soon conduct a joint rescue exercise off the coast of Bandar Abbas in preparation for joint war games the two countries plan to hold.

He underlined the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz and said Persian Gulf countries must cooperate to establish regional security and stability.

“Regional countries are able to provide security in the region by themselves and there is no need for foreigners’ presence in the waters of the Persian Gulf under the pretext of providing security,” he stated.

The members of the Omani delegation said Muscat is keen to expand bilateral cooperation with Tehran.

They also expressed hope that Persian Gulf countries would soon reach a consensus on regional security issues.
