Iran’s parliamentarian delegation off to Indonesia

Tehran, Dec 7, IRNA – Iran’s parliamentarian delegation left for Jakarta, Indonesia, Monday morning.

The delegation, headed by First Vice-Speaker Mohammad-Hassan Abutorabi, will participate in the 4th plenary session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly which is to be held in the city of Bandung on December 7-10.

The meeting will discuss different issues pertaining to the Asian continent in various economic, social, political and cultural areas.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was born in 2006 out of the collective desire and concerted effort of legislators and members of civil society in Asia to promote peace in general and in the Asian region, in particular. It comprises of 40 member parliaments and 18 observers. Each member parliament has a specific number of seats in the assembly based on the size of their population. The number of total seats, and therefore, number of votes, is currently 206.

The 7th session of the APA General Assembly was held in Tehran, in November 2006. The then speaker of Iran’s parliament Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel was elected as the first president of the APA for a two-year term./end
