Extremism has never worked in Iran: Majlis speaker

TEHRAN, Nov. 1 (MNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani told a press conference on Monday that extremism has never worked in the Iranian society.

Larijani made the remarks when asked about the fierce political wrangling which has followed since the June presidential elections.

Referring to the Supreme Leader’s recent remarks, the Majlis speaker pointed out that all political figures and mass media should try to foster unity in the society.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that slandering officials of the Islamic establishment and spreading rumors about them are part of the enemies’ soft warfare strategy.

“Such actions are in line with the wishes of the enemy because the country’s officials, including the president, the Majlis speaker, the Judiciary chief, and the Expediency Council chairman, are at the helm of the country and people should trust them,” he said in a meeting with Basij (volunteer forces) in Tehran.

The Supreme Leader also criticized certain media outlets and organizations, saying they are seeking to sow discord in society.
