Iran, Turkey satisfied with growing ties


Iran and Turkey here on Monday evening expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of Tehran-Ankara bilateral cooperation.

The announcement was made in a meeting between Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.

The Iranian foreign minister called for increase in exchange of delegations between the two states in line with further expansion of mutual ties.

He announced that Tehran-Ankara trade exchanges exceeded dlrs 11 billion in 2008.

Mottaki further appreciated Turkey’s independent stand regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The two foreign ministers called for promotion of bilateral relations in the area of culture and tourism.

Both Mottaki and Davutoglu called for more effective roles by the two states in regional developments aimed at establishment of peace, security and sustainable development in the entire region.

They also expressed their concern over the critical situation in the occupied Palestinian lands and called for regional cooperation to help resolve the existing problems facing the Palestinian nation.
