Iran, Turkey review expansion of mutual, regional cooperation

Visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu conferred on Saturday with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on expansion of mutual relations.

According to the Information and Press Bureau of Majlis, at the meeting, Larijani referred to cultural, religious, historical and geographical commonalities between the two countries and said the two sides have always enjoyed very deep rooted ties which should be further bolstered.

Calling for continued cooperation in favor of the two side’s interests, he said Iran and Turkey can play a very constructive role in regional developments and restoration of stability to the region.

The Iranian Majlis is ready to broaden bilateral relations and cooperation in political, cultural and commercial fields, Larijani said.

Referring to the new package of proposals offered by Iran to G5+1, he said continued talks is the only solution to nuclear standoff.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always voiced readiness to cooperate with international organizations on nuclear issues, he said.

The Turkish foreign minister, for his part, described Iran as a powerful country in the region and a good neighbor for Turkey.

Given numerous commonalities between the two countries, he underlined the need to further deepen such relations and cooperation, he said.

Turkey is determined to expand ties with Iran in various political, parliamentary, cultural and economic fields and attaches prime importance to such ties, he said.

The significant role of parliaments in bolstering mutual relations is undeniable, he said and called for expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to Iran’s nuclear dossier, he said the new package of proposals offered by the Islamic Republic of Iran is regarded as a significant stride towards resolving the issue.

Turkey backs continued dialogue between Iran and western countries on resolving the issue, he said.

Access to peaceful nuclear technology is among legitimate rights of very nation within NPT rules and regulations and Iran as a signatory to the treaty should not be deprived of this right, said the Turkish foreign minister.
