Qashqavi criticizes US double-standard attitude
– Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman criticized the US double-standard approach to illegal captivity of Iranian diplomats in Iraq and legal detention of Americans in Iran.
Hassan Qashqavi made the remark in answer to a question by a reporter on Tuesday.
He said the US officials and media kept spreading false news about a number of American citizens who were detained for illegal entry to Iran but remained silent over the totally illegal detention of Iranian diplomats in the city of Erbil in northern Iraq.
Qashqavi said the US did nothing about the diplomats who, in addition of being guilty of no crimes, enjoyed political immunity.
Five Iranian consulate officers were taken captive by US forces in Erbil in January 2007 and were back home only about two and a half years in American detention
in July 2009.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman further expressed wonder that the "humanitarian feelings" the American officials and media boasted of did not go for those Iranians who are trapped and kidnapped in the US or even other countries.
