Islamic States Solidarity Games to hold in April 2010
The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) decided to hold second Islamic States Solidarity Games on April 9-25, 2010.
The decision was made during the ISSF annual conference being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Monday evening.
The games which were supposed to be held in Iran on October 17-28 were postponed for the fear of the outbreak of swine flu (AH1N1) in the country.
The decision was made to prevent the outbreak of the deadly disease in Iran due to the large scale participation of Muslim athletes from Arab and non-Arab countries.
The event was to be held in three major provinces of Tehran, Isfahan and Mashhad, hosting athletes of various subjects including soccer, volleyball, basketball, handball, swimming, water polo, archery, fencing, weightlifting and table tennis.
The first Islamic States Solidarity Games were held in Saudi Arabia in 2005.
