20 countries to take part in Etesami Film Festival


Fifth Parvin Etesami Film Festival, named after noted Iranian poetess, will be held on December 17 with the participation of filmmakers from 20 countries.

The event is to focus on the films featuring women and aims to support them.

The upcoming festival will be held in two two national and international sections featuring 103 and 41 films respectively.

Shadmehr Rastin, Mohammad Reza Aslani and Parivash Nazarieh constitute the national section’s selection board who have picked up 103 works for the section out of 400 films submitted to the secretariat of the event.

Selection board of the international section includes Nasser Bakideh, Kourosh Jahedi and Hadi Monbati who have chosen 41 films for the section out of 135 works sent to the event.

Parvin Etesami (1907-1940) was born in Tabriz. Her first collection of poems was published in 1935 and she received the 3rd Degree Medal of Art and Culture in 1936.
Her poems focus on the themes of social wisdom and human aspect of life with simple yet telling allegorical elements.

There are no signs of romanticism or feminism in her works, although she lived in the period when Iran was beginning to modernize. She died of typhoid in Tehran in 1940 and was buried in Qom.
