French national among accused of 2nd trial of post-election unrests
A female French national along with an Iranian staff of the French Embassy in Tehran are among the accused who are put on trial on Saturday for their charges related to the involvement in the post-election unrests in Iran.
The second hearing for the suspects charged with committing “organized and pre-planned offenses” to disturb public order and security with the participation of “foreign” powers began at the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court this morning.
Clotilde Reiss, the French national, was arrested in Tehran on July 1 on charges of collecting information and provoking rioters after the June 12 presidential elections in Iran.
An Iranian staff of the French Embassy in Tehran, Ms. Afshar, is another female accused who is to go in the dock during today’s hearing.
The second hearing was to be held on August 6 but it was postponed until Saturday due to a demand by the lawyers of the accused.
Ahmad Zeid-Abadi, a leading journalist as well as Ali Tajernia, a former MP and present senior member of the Mosharekat Front Party are also among the leading figures to go in the dock today.
Other major accused in today’s hearing are Hedayat Aqaie, a leading reformist and member of the Kargozaran Sazandegi Party and Shahabuddin Tabatabaie and Javad Emam who were senior members of the electoral headquarters of Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the main rival of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the June 12 presidential elections.
The first trial for those accused of involvement in the post-election unrest was held on August 1 with the participation of one of the senior members of the Kargozaran-e Sazandegi Party Mohammad Atrianfar, former industry minister Behzad Nabavi and former vice-president and a member of the Assembly of Combatant Clerics Mohammad-Ali Abtahi.
The 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court has announced in a statement that the court would make its maximum efforts “to create a proper situation for the accused to tell the truth during the hearing sessions with no pressure and by their own will.”
