FM urges regioanl strategy to fight extremism

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki stressed on Sunday that the fight against extremism required a regional strategy.

Addressing a day-long tripartite meeting held by deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan, Mottaki said religious, cultural and historical common points between the three regional nations would guarantee their national interests and further cement their trilateral cooperation.

Referring to the tripartite meeting as a chance to redefine schemes for Tehran, Kabul and Dushanbe cooperation, Mottaki said the gathering would help institutionalize ways they would work together.

The tripartite meeting ended its work here by issuing a joint statement which urged the three capitals to boost their efforts to promote their all-out cooperation.

The statement called on the three regional states to draft a document for establishing a body to provide joint investments by Tehran, Dushanbe and Kabul.

Stressing the good neighborly relations among the three regional states, the joint statement also stressed the need for strengthening their cooperation particularly in political, security, economic and cultural fields.

The Iranian, Tajik and Afghan officials also agreed on a meeting to be held in the future by the three states’ ministers of road and transportation to boost their cooperation in the field of transit of goods.
