Laos plans to grow rubber tree on 300,000 ha
(KPL) Laos kicks off a plan to grow rubber tree on 300,000 ha with the hope to produce rubber for export and a key for poverty reduction.
Head Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Bounthong Bouahoom said Lao government was currently promoting the plantation of rubber trees in three northernmost provinces of Luang Namtha, Oudomsay and Bokeo and three central provinces of Borikhamsay, Khammouane and Savannakhet and three southern provinces of Champassak, Saravane and Attopeu.
The largest area of rubber plantation is the southern part of the country covered by 40 percent. A Vietnamese company of Hoang Anh Gia Lai invested in this area.
This company will construct its factory and produce by 2010.
Laos promotes the investment of rubber plantation that large number of domestic and foreign investors is keeping an eye on this sector.
While the rubber products are a high demand in the world market which trends to increase year-on-year. The volume consumption worldwide of rubber products expected to be at 31.5 million tones annual by 2020.
