Myanmar Air Strikes Escalate Fighting Opposite Thailand's Mae Sot

TAK, Dec 2 (TNA) - Myanmar military aircraft launched multiple bombing runs near the border with Thailand's Tak Province on Tuesday morning amid heavy clashes with anti-junta resistance forces.
The fighting, involving heavy artillery and small arms, escalated at the Pa Sak hill base in Myanmar, directly across the Moei River from the Thai village of Ban Mai Mae Kon Ken. The sound of explosions and gunfire echoed across the border.

Myanmar troops initially shelled resistance positions before deploying at least one aircraft for multiple bombing sorties, suggesting a potentially major offensive aimed at dislodging resistance forces blocking troop movements.
The volatile situation continues to pose a risk to Thai civilians along the border. Ms. Warissara Promma, a resident and owner of a fuel station in the frontline village, described the constant state of fear.

Following a severe escalation of fighting across the border, a bullet, believed to be a stray from the conflict, pierced a fuel dispenser at her station.
"We were lucky it didn't ignite a fire," she said, adding that she has since used old tires to barricade the dispenser for safety. She also reported that her home had been hit by stray bullets on multiple occasions.

In anticipation of worsening conflict, security forces have reinforced the frontier along Mae Sot district in Tak Province. - 819 (TNA)
