Japan Donates Emergency Flood Relief to Thailand’s South

BANGKOK, Dec 2 (TNA) - Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul formally accepted an emergency aid package from the Japanese government on Tuesday, channeled through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to help victims of severe flooding in the southern provinces. Meeting with Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, the Prime Minister expressed the Thai government's profound gratitude for the swift and sincere assistance, emphasizing that the action reflects the deep and trustworthy relationship between the two nations. The Ambassador affirmed that the aid was rooted in a spirit of "stable friendship and solidarity," recalling Thailand's past support for Japan during difficult times.

The substantial aid package, valued at approximately 7.1 million Thai baht, is focused on crucial needs, especially clean water. The shipment includes 150 large tents, 3,000 blankets, 3,000 sleeping pads, and importantly, 20 water purifiers and 500 plastic water tanks. These vital supplies will be immediately delivered for distribution in the hard-hit areas, such as Hat Yai.

Both nations reiterated their commitment to mutual support, with the Prime Minister assuring that Thailand would also accelerate improvements to its long-term disaster preparedness and management systems. - 819 (TNA)
