Erdogan says will continue efforts to have Iran in Naboko project


Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Teyyep Erdogan said his country will continue efforts to have Iran in “Naboko” gas pipeline project.

He made the remark on the sidelines of a ceremony during which the contract for the gigantic project was signed by the prime ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria. President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso also inked the document.

The Energy ministers of 18 regional and European states including Germany, Austria and Azerbaijan as well as US special envoy on the Caspian Sea energy, Georgian President Mikhaiel Sakashvili and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki were also present in the ceremony.

Speaking before the signing of the contract, Erdogan termed the project as an attempt to promote the spirit of friendship and cooperation in the region and that the project which was once considered a dream has now turned out to be a resourceful plan.

He said he would continue attempts to have Iran as part of the project as well.
