Bahrain, UAE discuss infrastructure and transport cooperation

Abu Dhabi, Feb. 9 (BNA): Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, held a series of meetings with officials in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between Bahrain and the UAE in infrastructure and transport.

 

The meetings were attended by Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works.

 

The minister met with Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE, to discuss road and transport infrastructure development and energy management in buildings. The meeting discussed enhancing infrastructure efficiency using modern methods, transitioning to sustainable transport solutions such as electric vehicles, and adopting innovative smart transport systems.

 

Minister Al Hawaj also met with Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being Pillar - Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The meeting explored means to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Works and Dubai’s RTA in road network and public transport development. Discussions also covered policies promoting electric vehicle adoption, autonomous driving technologies, and smart mobility solutions.

 

In a meeting with Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT)-Abu Dhabi, the minister discussed measures to improve traffic flow, implement innovative solutions for congestion management, and advance Abu Dhabi’s road network. Other topics included the use of treated water for irrigation and the development of a more sustainable and efficient sanitation system to support urban expansion.

 

Additionally, the minister visited Salik, Dubai’s toll gate operator, and met with CEO Ibrahim Al Haddad. The visit provided insight into the UAE’s experience in enhancing traffic management through the Salik toll system, reviewing key outcomes and future objectives.
