Bangkok braces for floods as heavy rain and upstream water

Bangkok, Sept 19 (TNA)– Bangkok authorities have issued a warning to communities living outside the Chao Phraya River dike, urging them to be vigilant against potential flooding from September 19-23.

The city is preparing for heavy rainfall and rising water levels, following a weather forecast that predicts significant precipitation and strong winds across several regions of Thailand, including the capital.

Ekwaranyu Amrapal, a spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), said the agency is closely monitoring the situation and has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of potential flooding.

“We are working closely with various agencies, including the Royal Thai Navy Hydrographic Department, the Royal Irrigation Department, and the Meteorological Department, to coordinate our response,” Amrapal said.

To prepare for the anticipated flooding, the BMA has deployed personnel to monitor vulnerable areas and has prepared equipment to respond swiftly to any incidents. In addition, the city has reinforced flood defenses along major waterways, such as the Chao Phraya River, Khlong Bangkok Noi, Khlong Maha Sawat, and Khlong Phra Khanong.

Residents in areas outside the flood defenses have been advised to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and to take precautions to protect their homes and belongings.

The BMA has also called on boat operators to exercise caution and to reduce their speed to minimize the impact of waves on riverside communities. -819 (TNA)
