Iraq to Host 2026 OIC Foreign Ministers Council meeting

Baghdad / NINA / -The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Monday, that Iraq will host the ministerial meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad for the year 2026.

A statement by the ministry stated that "under the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, the Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Muhammad Samir Al-Naqshbandi, submitted a request for Iraq to host the ministerial meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the organization for the 52nd session for the year 2026, during the 50th session held in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde." 

The statement added that "the Council of Foreign Ministers welcomed this initiative, and it was included in the report of the fiftieth session of the Council." 

He pointed out that "Iraq last hosted this meeting in 1981," indicating that "hosting the 52nd session comes within the Arab group, according to the principle of rotation between the regional groups in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which constitutes an important opportunity for Iraq to confirm its position in the Islamic world and support joint Islamic action." / End
