Syria calls for enhanced ties with Iran

Syrian Minister of Finance Mohammad al-Hussein on Tuesday called for holding a four-sided meeting with his Iranian, Iraqi and Turkish counterparts aimed at promoting regional cooperation.

Al-Hussein made the request in a meeting with Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development and the Iranian head of Iran-Syria Joint Economic Commission Mohammad Saeedi-Kia.

He expressed hope that necessary measures would be taken for inauguration of a joint bank in the near future.

The joint bank would play an effective role in promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation and providing facilities to Iranian pilgrims.

Saeedi-Kia, for his part, stressed the importance of making efforts by Iranian technical and engineering companies to increase their capabilities in international markets, particularly in Syria.

The two sides agreed to put the issue of regional cooperation on their agenda.
