Southeast Asia Tops Other Regions On Email Security Awareness -- Report

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Global technology company Zoho Corporation said Southeast Asia scored higher on email security awareness than other developing regions in the State of Email Security Awareness Report 2023.

Drawing from over 400 respondents from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, it said in a statement today that the region scored 43.2 per cent on email security awareness versus the Middle East and Africa (40.7 per cent) and South America (39.9 per cent). 

The report also found that the respondents were global leaders in “anomaly detection in email behaviour” and “data protection in file sharing”. 

"Notably, 25 per cent of these respondents were Zoho customers, and this subset exhibited higher awareness levels across these threat types compared to the overall average in the region," it said. 

According to the report, there was a notable gap in email security awareness between small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger enterprises. 

It noted that Southeast Asian SMEs scored 40 per cent on awareness, far behind the 51.1 per cent of their larger regional competitors.

Awareness among Southeast Asian SMEs was significantly behind developed regions like North America (61.6 per cent), Australia/New Zealand (57 per cent), and Europe (54 per cent). 

"Developing regions like India (42 per cent) also performed better. However, employees at Southeast Asian SMEs were marginally ahead of their Middle East and African peers (39.7 per cent), and those in South America (39.2 per cent).

"In larger organisations, employee awareness in this region was also higher than the Middle East and Africa (38.1 per cent) and South America (36.4 per cent), and likewise lagged behind India (54 per cent)," it added. 

Moreover, there was a significant gap of around 13 per cent between Southeast Asian large enterprises and those in developed regions like North America, Australia/New Zealand, and Europe, according to the report.
