Italian FM: Severing ties with Iran "ineffective"
Russia’s daily “ Rossiyskaya Gazetta” quoted Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini as saying that severing ties with Tehran would be “useless and ineffective”.
According to the newspaper website, the Italian FM in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov stressed on inviting Iran for negotiating with European sides and said that no country intends to issue a strong statement against Iran .
The news source said that in G8 foreign ministers meeting in Trieste, Italy, the most important issue was Iran and many reporters from US, Britiain, Japan and the Netherlands had focused on Iran’s issues.
Rossiyskaya Gazette said that western reporters evaluated statement of the meeting about Iran “mild” , but Lavrov called it “useful” and added issues concerning Iran’s election should be settled through democratic ways and upon Iran's laws.
