Huawei Expects 5.5G To Enter Commercial Use This Year

BARCELONA (Spain), Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, the global provider of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, expects that its next generation of 5G network technologies, 5G-Advanced or 5.5G, will enter commercial use this year together with artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud convergence solutions.

Huawei's corporate senior vice president and president of ICT sales and service Li Peng said the company was confident that the new 5.5G network, which is expected to deliver speeds that are 10 times faster than the current 5G networks, would further unlock the potential of networks and create new growth opportunities in the world.

“Carriers can unlock the potential of new applications and capabilities. (Hence), they should focus on high-quality networking, multi-dimensional monetisation, and generative AI to grasp these opportunities,” he said at the 5G Beyond Growth Summit on the sideline of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024 here.

Li noted that 5G has already gained 1.5 billion users around the world in the past five years since its commercialisation in 2019.

He said 20 per cent of global mobile subscribers are currently using 5G, generating 30 per cent of all mobile traffic while contributing 40 per cent of mobile service revenue.

The four-day MWC 2024, the largest annual gathering in the telecommunications industry hosted by the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), kicks off today and is expected to convene over 100,000 telecommunications industry players.
